Sparkling Star

a poem by Alok Mehta

Nestled deep in the core of coal

Buried for centuries in deep hole
secure in Mother Earth’s womb
a grave or am I, a tomb?
Born with man’s labour
Rays of light, exotic name like ‘Hoor’
Myriad colours flow through my soul
A tear drop about to roll
A sparkler so bright
a dazzler in the light
Christened diamond in the sky.
