Lay down that heavy load,
Take the weight off your back
Pick up your shoulders down the road,
And come back to take your sack.
You don’t have to tote it all
There is help along the way,
You must seek it out, or else,
On its shelf it will always stay.
There is always an easier way,
Than the road we sometimes choose,
But, while on that beaten path we stay,
At every turn we lose.
There are many roads to choose,
It’s a chance of which one to pick,
If you pick the wrong one and lose,
Then turn around really quick.
Start down another path,
And head another way,
You just might find, if you don’t give up,
That there is help along the way.
You may not have to return to,
The load and carry it all alone,
For surely somewhere along the road,
You’ll at least find a buggy, a horse and a stone.
All that is needed of you is
To take that stone and cast it afar,
Hook up that buggy to that horse,
And wish upon every twinkling star.
For, of all these heavy loads you bear,
Have built a very strong back,
You may have laid them down to rest,
And got yourself back on track.
Look, how strong and understanding you become,
For now you have had to see,
That life is not as easy for some,
And you’ve hopped out of your judgement seat.
You’re judged now, by others,
Like yourself in the past,
But one day they may carry that load,
And walk that road at last.
As they travel that road, with their back,
Weighed and shoulders slumped with pain,
Their load will seem to get lighter
Then down will come a cold hard rain.
Their load will get heavier,
They’ll feel so alone,
They’ll walk along this long hard road,
And then they’ll come across a stone.
Lifting that stone,
They’ll cast it afar,
Upto the dark skies they’ll look,
And wish upon every twinkling star.
And here you’ll come
Back up that road,
With a horse and a buggy,
To return to your load.
No, you won’t pass them by,
But you’ll stop to help,
With tears of compassion in
Your once judgemental eyes.
Soon they’ll learn that life ain’t easy for all
But with each load they tote,
They will remember to help someone,
Instead of judge when they begin to fall.
Say thanks for it taught us to lay down the load,
And not tote it all at once.
But to go down that long road,
And rest upon a stump.
By taking our time and not always rushing,
The load won’t be so hard to bear,
We would not be quite so tired,
And we would have the time to care.
Often at times, it takes that road,
It takes an aching back and shoulders that slump,
To slow us down to an even pace
And pick us out of the dumps.
Sometimes it takes all that hardwork,
To see how easy some have it made,
It does make us appreciate those lemons in life,
Eventhough, sometimes, we forget to make that.
