Mirror Reflections

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

Is that me staring out into space?
Wandering all over the place?
Is that me with that hairdo?
I mean is that me sitting over there with you?

Is that me with my heart broke with those pills?
Is that me praying to God to let me live?
Is that me running from that guy?
Is that me with my first black eye?

Is that me winning that interview?
Is that me begging you?
Is that me graduating from school?
Is that me with the coolest dude?

Is that me on my knees to pray?
Is that me asking this fool to stay?
Is that me shopping at the mall?
Is that me looking at my stock fall?

As I look into the mirror at the reflections of my life
I see that I had more positives then negatives
To be thankful for

As I reach into my mirror of reflections
There is just one thing I would change.
That would be death in the shadows of all life.

For me I would like to live forever,
Soaking up all the knowledge that long living grants you.
Importing it to the young and lawless,
Who claim always to be flawless.
In hopes that I will deflect,
the mistakes we all make
In our ignorant youthfulness.
Let me hold on to my friends
Just a little bit longer,
Before it all comes to,
The End
