What a plentiful store of toys!
Have in you, oh! world!
To fascinate us little kids
To thine twisting ways varied
Thou the great wizard!
With the spell of thy magic
Charms us to forget our goal
And hold us spell bound to you
How many pranks you play
With these little candid kids
And how thou play hide and seek
Make us weep and laugh
How thou fill vessels various with
Sweet and bitter as you wish
Hasten we for the choice
Often find we the bitter one
Fly we high on the fortune’s wing
Fall we flat our wings so burnt
Pant we, lie we with aching limbs
And thou laugh at our sorry plight
Strive we hard to reach our goal
But thou keep it at arms length
Keep us strive and get alive
Busy, thus perfecting the Act
The short span of life
Do we spend in thine pleasure
Make us love thou more and more
In tears do we bade farewell.
