The Sultan of Nuts

a poem by Charishma Jaikishin Ramchandani

Swathed in a unique green silk,
Dignified, it sat, on a silver tray, in the Royal court.
Throwing around its flair,
Secretly enjoying, of hungry eyes, the glare.
Prized since ancient times,
The pistachio, often present, while enjoying good times.
Felt like a Sultan…
The “Sultan of Nuts”.
It beamed a quick soft smile,
When in walked the young princess, delicate as a windchime.
She lifted it in her finger,
It blushed, a romantic pink.
Clutched itself close together,
Appearing as complex as a jigsaw puzzle…
As it peeped o’er the edge of her finger,
To look into the silver tray,
For a partner as charismatic as the princess,
For its ideal queen!
