The Long Road

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

A new motorway stretches ominously through a green landscape
that looks like a petrified ocean,
alas hares don’t know traffic rules
and when chased by their arch enemy the fox,
run unseen paths that cross the asphalt road
and both get squashed.
Dark spots, a bit of fur
there is no difference between a fox or a hare
they has been run over fifty eight times.
A blood dripping track
that that leads us nowhere faster than last year.
