Dear Granny

a poem by Mabel Annie Chacko

I know as the days pass, it will ease,
But the pain sears hot in me;
And I ask myself over and over, please
Let it not be so, say it was not best.
You left me without a goodbye,
Without a profession of love;
I can’t say all that I miss,
My soul feels battered and blue.
I didn’t say goodbye to you,
For you left me before I could.
But, I feel the ache of your absence,
Too much to say the words as I would.
Are you content in peace now?
Is your anguish washed away?
Have you found your place somehow?
Were your questions answered today?
I hope there is no pain there,
That all you have sought, you have found.
Happy among the angels there,
Never to feel forgotten again.
Take your rest now, my lovely granny,
The light of the stars will bring back to me your face,
Their brightness holding you where you belong,
In the shadows of my heart, in your own special place.
