Ode to Poetry

a poem by Lakshminarayana K

You peep through the clouds of many a mood,
Like the silver moon, oft smile in the nude.
Appear along the pathways I tread.
Disturb my placid sleep on the bed,
Tickle my heart, mind and soul,
Perch on the verge of a distant goal,
You hug my heart in a season right
Like the newly-weds, unconsciously, at night.

Along the river of grief bloom you,
On both its banks like a blossom: its true.
Like a chick from the egg of emotion born,
You crow like a cock at the crack of dawn.
You drive out the tension of haunting fears,
Reinforce rules of humanity sans tears,
Mark in ink all the impressions kind,
On the geography of the human mind.

Like water to the dying, you are the potion to redress
The wrongs wrought by gloom and distress.
In the desert dry, you are an oasis;
Amidst thorns, you are a rose of bliss.
You leak out follies and furies’ farce.
You unfetter minds from boredom’s bars.
You bring rhythm to the aimless, on time,
You lengthen the short span of life in a rhyme.

You’re the study ship of voyage eternal,
Conveying words to lands external.
Like gusts of wind, wherever you be,
You scatter seeds of peace and love free.
You’re the poets’ dove-with wings of unfurled.
Flying their messages across the world!
You are the stallion that poets ride,
Galloping with grace and princely pride.
