Our Lifeline

a poem by Sundri

Our eyes light up
And we heave a sigh of relief
When we hear the doorbell chime
Every morning at sharp Nine!
For it heralds her arrival
With a smile and a greeting
She enters and bids us Good day
Although for her its just another day
Of toil and daily chores
She bears our demands
And indulges us all
With infinite patience
And loving care
A person of few words
She speaks not her mind
To all at home
She is sweet and kind
But her eyes reveal the woes
Of single handed strife
Of making ends meet
And keep her hearth alight
She works from dawn to dusk
With not a single frown
Day in and day out
All the year around
What would we all do
Without her, our house help
