The Long Silence

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

A long fjord, a deep fjord. A blue rowing boat adrift.
Light and shadow dance to an echo of lost words and
In silt, where silence is abstract, a fisherman’s eyes are
Open seeing the forever.
High above, where mist glues the mountain range to
The sky, a lone seabird flew and the bleakness of
The day framed itself on my mind.
