Noting

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

He came from nowhere, stood
In the middle of the road stretching
South to north.

From the distant south a
Cyclist appeared, passed him and
Vanished into the hazy north.

A blue tractor came and went
And evening fell, the night
Was his alone.

Face up in a ditch he lay and
Saw stars for what they are,
Lumps of ice in an empty glass.

A happy man at last, a gazer of
The galaxy, he and it faded at
Misty dawn
