Little Princess

a poem by Nandita Pai

She sat pretty,
   dressed in her royal gown.
Wore grand shoes,
   and a diamond crown.
She had a number of maids,
   to attend to her.
Her wardrobe was filled with,
   clothes of silk and fur.
She possessed a Limo,
   chauffeur and all.
Believe it or not,
she even owned a small mall!
Everyone thought,
she was the luckiest amongst all girls.
Who had everything,
from beautiful clothes to a chain of pearls.
But, the girl, she felt really lonely,
   and was very, very sad.
Lots of dear friends,
   she really wished she had.
She wasn’t allowed to go out,
   and play in the sand.
As that would dirty her outfit,
and the gloves covering her hand.
She yearned to go out doors,
   and make lovely sand-castles.
And chase a rabbit to it’s burrow,
   or even a turtle.
But, the poor child,
she felt locked up in the huge palace.
No one can help her,
as that’s the fate of the Little Princess.
