Pair of Puppies

a poem by Satish Kakri

Day after day, in the morn
A pair of puppies, sit on stairs
Watching and waiting;
This sweet little pair.

Devotees to temple go and return
With remainder of ‘prasad’ their offering sweet
Puppies keep looking and yearn
For their little share, to eat.

Not all the visitors think alike
Some ignore these puppies, others dislike.
But one lady, not so young
Fancies cute puppies swinging their tongues
An equal share, she gives to the pair
While she is gone, puppies watch pair and stare
