Childhood

a poem by Anne Pavitra Jacob

Oh how wonderful it is to be young!
To be a child shouting with glee
Wandering through the fields and dung
From all the worldly cares made free

Oh how different does the world appear
To the small innocent child
Who has never known any fear
Even wild animals seem so mild.

Oh how mysterious does the world seem
To the little imaginative heart
With mermaids floating in the stream
And fairies dancing on jam tart.

Oh how beautiful does the world look
To the young wondering mind
With the muddy river and sparkling brook
The gentle breeze and Wild West Wind.

Oh what a wonderful place the world is
With nothing to do but laugh and play
Oh happy heart – what a bliss
It is to remain a child so gay.
