The Confession

a poem by Tanushree Nair

It was another day at school,
And all the kids were there.
Suddenly a loud noise,
Gave them all a scare.
“Who broke the window?”
Came the Principal’s booming voice,
For a glass pane had been broken,
By one of the little boys.
Every lad shivered in his shoes,
For they feared their Teacher.
He looked so terrifying,
Like an angry, fierce creature.
“Speak boys” he said,
“Tell me who broke the glass.
If no one comes out,
I will punish the entire class.”
The Principal got angry,
And took out his cane.
Just then a small boy said,
“Sir, sorry, but it was I who broke the pane.”
The Principal was pleased,
At what the boy had to say.
He patted him gently,
And went on his way.
