An ode to monument of thy love

a poem by Suboor Usmani

The fairer half could not have been fair
The child within could have been enticed
The scorpion queries could have killed the ‘Ram’ and it could have been the demons way
The near fatal misery could have lead time slip away from her disabled hand
The endless quest could not have reached its end
From pillar to post to cravings, all could have been in vain

Had it not being destined that she was to live with you
Only with a change in name and form

For she expected you after every squeak of the door
Least realizing you were too pre-occupied,
Building the monument of (her) love…
Searching for that ‘first brick’ which she took away to write her epitaph
And resurrect ‘the foundation of her Home’
