Broken

a poem by Sashikala

Can you see the pieces lying broken
On the floor, unwanted?
They lie in a small pool of tears
That had dripped ceaselessly from my eyes.

I wonder if you heard the clinks
Of breaking?
Or did you close your ears to the sounds?
Even now they lie there, all alone.

Your words pierced my heart
They cut it like a million shards
I tried to flee
But the chains held me back.

Maybe they will be picked up
Or will crunch underfoot
All wrong sizes and shapes
Breaking even further.
