There is a chill in the air,
war is flapping its wings
casting long shadows across the world
and helpless we watch
as the mighty square up
ready to plunge us into the clamour of the killing field.
Poets and philosophers write about peace
the words go unheard for
when blood is boiling
reason is another word for treason.
When the war is over
and millions have been slaughtered
a new dawn will come haunting the battlefield
and a renewal of the old promise
will sing amongst smoking ruins
“NO MORE WAR.”
