Stop the Iraq War

a poem by Hiren Shah

Despite the protests the war has commenced; that does not mean it cannot stop
This is not something that once given cannot be taken back; here, there is no child or lollipop
The majority of world public is against it; whether child, mom and pop.
Everybody is protesting openly; there in no hearsay, no need to eavesdrop.

Considering the unanimous view, it is clear that this move is a flop.
There are protests on the street as well as the computer; whether at desk or laptop.
To do something about it should get priority; on world agenda, it should be right on top.
Uncle Sam would be hailed if such an unpopular step it decided to drop.

If war continues, there could be dangerous consequences; who will mop?
In the long run, we may need a Lincoln or a Gandhi (we haven’t managed in 50 years); who will prop?
Everybody could get affected; an executive in office or a farmer tending his crop.
Being a superpower obscures ground reality; the lovely and not right view prevails at hilltop.
Why get into all this; after the end of the cold war, why further change and chop.

If this is cowboy politics, it is an undesirable gallop.
In the long run there could be a counter wallop.
You would be appreciated even further if you stopped playing International cop.
Would it not be better if you confined yourself to America; all over do you need to hop?

It would be even better if you stop being the world’s biggest arms shop.
It is time America stopped this flip-flop.
If one were to talk in the context of ‘9/11 which forms the right backdrop.
You need to bring the world together; your policies you urgently need to swap.
This war may set off a chain reaction; please stop.
(Give more weightage, use spiritual (peaceful and happy) instead of Nuclear power)

“This is just a poetic expression of world public opinion before and during the Iraq war.
The author of this poem opines that America should use its cultural power more than military power.
Wherever double standards and vested interests have been mentioned, they are for whole of mankind.”
