Nature’s Land

a poem by Sue Mann

Give to me a land that has hills,
And mountains with snowy frills.
These lovely sights that beckon and thrill.

Give to me a hill that speaks
to the sun as it peeps,
An echo that passes from peak to peak.

Give to me a forest that rustles
in the wind as it whistles,
Music that sets the heart abustle.

Give to me a scent, of the pines
the shrubs and clinging vines,
of the junles more heady than wine.

Give to me those leaves that flutter
to the floor without clutter,
which muffle a footsteps mutter.

Give to me a stream that dances
down the slope as it prances,
a sound that recedes and advances.

Give to me a rain that showers
the hills with a power
to leave them full of flowers.

Give to me a carpet of grass
that grows thick in a mass
A bundle of it cut by a lass.

Give to me the animals that roam
in the woods of their home,
the leopard and panther, the bear and the mole.

Give to me the birds that chirp
and some in their beaks do twirl
a straw that into a nest they curl.

Give to me a path that winds
into a labyrinth of kinds,
walking which refreshes the mind.

Give to me a love that understands
that walks hand in hand
through the forests and hills in Nature’s land.
