Dying Flame

a poem by Mainak Chatterjee

The holy fire which was lit few years ago
Slowly dying out

We live together
Like strangers
Surrounded by shattered glass panes
Crumbling plasters
Cold and damp walls

There is nothing left between us
Only awkward silence
Sometimes interrupted by
Irritating grumbling noise

Some portion of the wall
Is still dry and warm
Fondly displaying scribbling
And not so perfect crayon drawings

Dying fire may get rekindled
Decaying relationship may get new lease of life…
