Victory

a poem by Sanal Kumar

Like everyone
I too entered the wonderful
World of life,
And started to climb
The mountain of childhood
A thrilling expedition it was
Encountering many pleasures
On the way,
When tired
We took shade in the green
Cloud tree
When hungry
We plucked the delicious
Fruits

We flew like a bird
We jumped like antelopes
We crawled like snakes
We roared like a lion
We swam like fish
We sang like bird.

But time rotated
Its magic wheel of life
So fast that
Than we could ever think of
We were soon to come out
The wonderful world of life
It was just like a fairy tale
Just ended there.

Everyone said,
Now you are about to enter a
World of adulthood
Where things are different
it is a dark forest
Lurked with lot of dangers
So beware
Of each step you take
And measure all your movements
Or else
You will be side stepped

But I did not heed anyone’s words
I was fearless
As I was before
With a innocence of a child,
I thought
None can frighten me
Nor make slip my steps.

It seemed to me at the beginning
But things began to change
First I used to get little bite of
Blood sucking leaches
I did not care
I continued my journey
Went on with my adventure
But things began to change little more
I began to face
Lot more dangers

Some tried to scare me like a snake
Some tried to jump on me like a leopard
Some roared at me like a lion
I was afraid a little
But I did not forsake my fight.
As I decided to manage
To withstand all the dangers

Now what my elders said to me
Came ringing in my ears
Yes, this is dark forest
Lurked with lot of dangers

I was tired
I longed to get out of this jungle
As soon as I can
I myself thought
Adventure was enough.
Hence I started running
For my life,
I ran on and on
Until I came across
Light of my way out
Soon I was to exist

There stands a madden
Elephant
Blocking my way
To crush me to death.

I shivered and trembled
But
This time I thought
I would fight like a
True warrior
A war until death.
I fought fearlessly
Forest shook in its splendor
Shivered like porcupine.
Birds flew a way from branches
Facing danger
I jumped upon the devils head
Ripped open its dirty veins
Drank the blood of victory.
