It was on a beautiful moonlit winter night
when old Ernie in his lonesome cabin died.
His dog howled its sorrow to the oblique moon
which through a dusty window shone.
For days, it sat by his side
till hunger tolled
and it took a timid bite of Ernie’s upper arm.
Spring, people came looked for Ernie everywhere,
this vanishing act
a mystery yet to be resolved.
They patted his mournful dog,
which looked remarkable well?
Fed and gave it another home.
