The Fall

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

A sparrow fell from the sky
onto nature’s welcoming soil.
Tenderly the breeze caressed fragile feathers,
as a scream echoed through
a canyon of high rise flats.
A woman fell from her fifth floor balcony
landed on hard asphalt with a thud.
A mortal rose from her broken body bloomed.
Her silence spoke words
she had never been able to say before.
A breeze of dust tug at her nightdress.
