Who are you?

a poem by Hari (Hyd)

I try in vain
to fight, to erase
That sight;
That pair of eyes;
clear and wide
oozing such innocence.
As only a child’s can.
I stared into them
hard and long
for it would only be once.
And never again.
Now I run away
but they follow me
everywhere.
As poignant and intense
as then.
I close my eyes
An in the darkness
they return to haunt,
More brighter than ever.
smiling, yet telling
nothing.
In their depths
I lose myself
with abandon.
To drink merrily
from the spring of purity.
Unknown to me
A voice emerged
I am you!
And for a brief moment
as those eyes shut,
I was blinded;
helpless and unaided
know not any other emotion.
The eyes that bound mine
Are beautiful, guileless.
They belong to someone
I will never ever see.
And I don’t need to.
They have left
an imprint;
indelible;
in my eyes,
On my mind.
