We met on a rainy day,
It was raining- tiny droplets
Glistening on the rose petals.
The mango tree, heavy with blossoms
Swaying in the breeze,
Scattering heavy drops
I was staring into the cool evening
Vacantly staring, when
My eyes came upon him
There he was- looking
Searching for someone

Today we met for the last time
On the hospital bed- he was
Lying there, smiling
Through tears of pain
Bidding goodbye in silence.
His eyes communicating
Telling me, reminding me
Our friendship, the agony
The ecstasy and the trifling
Quarrels and mischiefs
Looking at him
Eyes brimming with tears
Am I a good friend?
My head goes down with shame.
I was stubborn, demanding
Irritating ā€˜nā€™ annoying
How I wish to go back,
Put right all the wrongs
I did to him
If only…
