Sojourner

a poem by Sudhin De

I will sing
a joyous song
for you.
Its happy notes
will ring
through the valley
of your heart,
where in the golden glen
once the nightingales
sang in spring.
The glen
that now lies
arid and bare
as lonely years
like swallows
took to flight
with the winter
and the snow.

But now
that on my sojourn
I have arrived
in your desolate terrain
you need mourn
no more in despair
for those lost years.
I will sing
the joyous song
in melodious refrain
and your lonely moorland
shall echo once again
with sunny colours
of red and gold
as I hold you
under my spell
with my soulful tune
of everlasting spring…

I shall lie
beside the stream
of your consciousness
winding down
in soft murmur
to meet the cherished
waves of oceanic love
and you shall echo
my song in ecstasy.

I shall lie
on the soft green grasses
moist with morning dew.
the grasses that whisper
your secret sighs in my ears
as the winding night
leaves the azure sky to itself
to rejoice
at the touch
of the golden hue.

With you around
to cradle my thoughts
my flamboyant songs
will find newer notes
more vibrant
than ever before…
And
I, once a sojourner,
shall remain
ever bound
to the lush valley
of your breasts.
