Choker

a poem by Rangarajan G

This man whom
I espoused
Has but a heart of
Stone.
Stone deaf to
My woes
But ever alive
To the lustrous
Stone that
He sold-
Shaped from
The carbon
Of his heart
Petrifying himself
To merchandise.

The sparkling
Thread around
My neck
Shows but a facet
Of the noose-
A choker.
The pendant
An albatross!
And I hang,
Forever
Condemned
To strain on
The studded leash.
