For Rahul Dravid… with love

a poem by Paromita Bardoloi

One day,
when you are old and frail,
and your figure starts drooping down,
as you tend to stand erect
go through all your fan mails…
which you never had time for!
Many loved the aura that surrounded you,
many loved you for your charm,
some for praises,
yet, amidst that crowd, faced a girl, who loved you true.
Who lived each of your moments,
cheered at the sixes,
cried at your ducks
and always prayed for you.
Who even loved your frowns,
and will love you with all your wrinkles.
One day,
when you cannot hit with your bat,
and run like a leopard,
think that there is still a girl,
who loves you even without, your sixes and fours.
