God, I Love You

a poem by Paramesh C R

God,
Millions world over
Wait for the sight of you
Talk of your omnipresence
You don’t yourself claim.
Judge me not as ungodly
For questions I ask you.

God, I love you dearly
Because I love myself
I believe in you
As I have faith in me.
Are you not a part of I
My extended self state?
If you are not
I would invent one I like.

You always are there
Formless in thought.
You are my crutch
When in pain or despair
Can I not visit a temple?
Hide from the vile world
Feel a sense of reverence
With an invisible force.

So many of you ‘exist’
As custodians of religions
Tenants in Church, Temple
Mosque and Synagogue.
I know not yet who you are
Yet I ascribe mysticism
And Power, define you
Limit your abode.
More I do, more of you show up
Not more of the same unknown
More of the way I discern.

Gods, do you vie with each
For power and territory
Hold a summit of Gods?
And resolve your seeming conflicts?
May you come out of your abode
Talk of the kinship you all hold.

You cause chaos and calamity
Witness misery and disaster.
Have mortals believe in you
Wherever you are, what ever form
Name you take; Buddha, Jesus,
Shiva, Vishnu, Allah or Abraham.
Of you I know less to say.

Millions ‘live’ in graveyards
Blissful of the turbulent world
Call it a quiet kingdom.
Does joy visit their Holy Land?
Are they safer than yesterday?
Have their souls been restored?

Do you, God, vote for war too?
You take lives, one and many.
Is it in wrath or cause of time?
Please say not: ‘It was God’s will’.

God, you are as good as Godliness
As omnipresent as seen
As omnipotent as imagined
As godly as conceived
As perfect as perceived
As great as treasured
As free as wind and air
As mystic as mystery can be.

Lead me Right, Safe and Just
Give wisdom, free my path
If you love me as you should.
I am still young and open
For a better end with strife
That is the burden of my life.
