Your best friend

a poem by Atul James Singh

Friendship is not a matter of years
It’s a matter of ages;
My friends in life are few
Like a leaf holding tiny drops of dew.
Their names are not written in a book
But in the closet of my heart;
And I know they are always with me
Even if we are distant apart.

Many like me, will walk in and out of your life
But it doesn’t mean, they are a part of your life;
Many like me, will talk and smile with you
That does not suggest, they are made for you
Many like me, will come and hold your hand
Be sure, they just like blowing hot sand.
I am never worth a friend, I know it right
And my attitude has always been a cause of fight

So the future is bright waiting for thee
I wish you find a friend better than me.
Who has the heart to understand thee
Who overcomes all the pains given by me
A friend, who understands the language of your eyes
And who neither hurts you, nor speak any lies.
A friend whose shoulder is always there for your head
Who understands your feelings, even if you have not said.

Coz, friendship is not a matter of years
It’s a matter of ages;
Your friends should be few
Like a leaf holding drops of dew.
Their names to be written not in a book
But in the closet of your heart;
And you know they are always with you
Even if you are distant apart.
