Life’s Alma Mater

a poem by

Amandeep Bhalla

Walking a road,
My thoughts clear,
The sky overhead,
No one around,
Reality slaps me.
I fight for direction,
For true North,
The stars are hidden,
Lost and lonely,
A grain on a highway,
The road narrowed

I knew it was time.
I effused my fettered existence.
It was not my voice,
My heart was singing,
It was not my feet,
My eyes were dancing.
It was not my vision,
My mind was spinning,
It was not the wind-
It was a soul taking flight.
