Ahalya

a poem by Sanika Mordekar

In a prison disguised as a home
Ensnared by the craft of the evil power
Who seek to ruin her tomorrow
Ahalya learnt to hold her tongue
But in the fullness of time
When she was at the end of her rope
The words, the beatings and the sexual assault
Ahalya rose like a spirit of truth
And roared in vexation
She was heard miles across
High and low
But alas it was all in vain
As she laid down there lifeless
Without a care in mind at all
Because now she was heard
Ahalya colours me inspired
