Welcome 2003

a poem by Rajdeep Gupta

Waiting on our couch is another year of happiness,
This is a year to spread the message of peace,
As we hugged 2002 for the last time, listen!
I had a torrid year my friend, it cries.

I had Godhra in my backyard as well as Devdas,
I crowned Ms. Turkey as well as brought mother Teresa close to sainthood,
The year was all in all a bad one as Bush my child,
Decided to rage a war again.

2003 listen! Behold yourself for the best,
There won’t be roses strewn along the path,
While Indians raise hope for the world cup,
I dare that Pakistan will again wage a war for Kashmir.

Let the year be filled with fun and frolic,
No hatred in mankind, let love blossom,
Let the politicians stop making promises,
Prices decry and the common man raises hope.

Welcome 2003, in my wings
Let the year 2002 never trouble you.
