Sublimation

a poem by Devika

I seek no gratification,
I ask for no happiness,
I look for no special concessions
From life-
For I know my frenzy shall not
Alter the falling of a single leaf,
Ordained-

But I cup my palms
That I may hold in them
The drifting lights of dreams,
That rainbow lifted from the sky,
The drop of dew that fell last night,
The leaf that lost its moorings now,
A hint of smile in your eyes,
Your tear-stains, hidden, brushed off,
A fragrance as you went past,
A gush of silent loving thoughts,
The pain of tenderness unsought,
Wordless, aching, gentle touch-

A sublimation
I hold between my heartbeats,
For I know this too shall pass…
