Bliss

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Utopia is a lazy drifting day
with a sweet tinge of regret
for not doing anything like serious work
and not having to pay any bloody bills.

Utopia is a cold winter day
and when I come indoors
take my shoes off
stretched my feet towards the fire
till the socks singe.

Utopia is to be alone in the house,
but not too long,
can watch my own T.V. program for a change
read or just sit there and dream.

Utopia for me is the simple things
no dreams of castles
or shiny cars,
I’ll stay in my modest cottage
and tenderly think of love lost.
