The Longing of the Soul

a poem by Nandakumar Nayar

The longing of the soul,
To find its opposite twin;
Manifests itself.
Through all this din;
Quite differently
From where it all started

Power, prestige, pride,
Continue to rule the roost;
Drugs, alcohol and nicotine,
Tries so much, but all it does is boost;
The longing of the soul,
To find its opposite twin

Men look to women,
Women look to men;
Or within their own gender,
To quench the yearning of
The longing of the soul,
To find its opposite twin

Nature abhors vacuum,
Nature abhors polarization,
Yin looks for yang,
Knowledge seeks ignorance,
Like the longing of the soul,
To find its opposite twin

Once the soul meets,
The opposite in its twin,
Peace descends, the past transcends,
The future is irrelevant,
The Shakta unites with the Shakti;
So-hum!
