Tsunami

a poem by Satheesan Rangorath

With a thousand hands grabbing,
Holding sharp swords of greed,
Hairs matted in oozing blood.
Possessed you stampede on this land.

You had fangs of desperation.
Thousands of tongue slurped every land,
Devastating every nook and corner,
Licking all that came on your way.

With one stride you measured,
Earth and heaven, rising above horizon;
Shattered sun and moon to pieces,
Sprinkled as pepper and salt in your food

We never knew you rise from the grave,
Wearing the robe of Dracula,
Who had been crucified and locked in.
Abysses; of our wildest nightmare.

Tsunami, what a sweet name you have.
What a monster you turned out into.
A giant Piranha in search of hot blooded flesh!
Yes, we created this entire phenomenon!

The Jaws of sharks, King Kong the giant,
We created monsters of our imagination.
Our blood thirsty eyes created wild dreams.
Of Earth quake, Anaconda and Jurassic parks,

Lord grants every wishes of human being.
Did we not enjoy those of our cruel creations?
The fear psychosis of time immemorial,
Still hangs in the air waiting curtain raiser.

Yes we know your strength, your grandeur.
We are just puny before your magnanimity.
All our energy put together could never match,
A sighing whistle from your lips,

Tsunami don’t come again, you are not welcome.
Let our children play on the white sands of beaches
Let them have simple things of life like sun shine and snow flakes
Let us have the fear of god, just as beginning of wisdom.
