Together we wait

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

The stillness in the village is not peaceful,
dogs look worried
and keep close to walls,
an easterly wind brings rain
that doesn’t jubilantly spurt,
heralding spring.
No, it’s more like the deep melancholy of un-cried tears.
Farmer Joe scans the sky and whispers:
“Better take the sheep in there’s calamity in the air.”
