Nature’s Ceremony

a poem by Nabanita Bhuyan Mathew

I strolled past my shore
And found nothing more;
Sailors with arid throat
Lay prostrate with coat on their boat;

A drizzling Summer shines
Moses no more pines
Where amongst the creeper vine,
they quench their thirsty line;

Here a famished hamlet froth
Limns not of anguish or sloth;
Wonders of Nature’s greenery trod
Through fields and woods from wretched sod;

I strolled past my shore
And found nothing more;
With dirty rags wrapped
The malignant features draped;

The crystal shower cleanse
Where sores brew stench hence,
From whence sprouts hopes consequence
And life feels Nature’s quintessence.

Angel dismounts, the embodiment of singing bird,
Stewing fumes on enlightened hearts
Enlivens this nostalgic Earth;
Pastures outburst with farmers’ mirth.
