Chorus

a poem by Purushothama Rao R

Passing of a couple of hours after the midst of one night
And when the whole world is fast asleep
Silence slowly whispered in my ear
In a low and almost inaudible decibels
Stating that ‘A sound is born’ in a joyous mood

At the same time
Following carefully
The orders of the great winds,
The leaves of majority of the trees
Started tinkling in rhythmic tones
In delightful tunes

One flower fresh from the garden
Brought in a fragrant weave to my nasal cavities
Humming the ring tones left behind in her mind
Sweetly by a multi coloured butterfly

All the birds who started leaving their beloved kids and nests
Have received a musical farewell from their kith and kin with twittering tunes

All the places of worship in quick succession
Opened their sound systems to the public hearing in blaring decibels
Reciting ‘Suprabhatam’ and other religions’ wake up songs started sounding in.

The mechanism of fast rise and fall of waves on the sea front is
Searching all proofs and striving to put them all together before us
To establish the truth in natural and native terms emphasizing the quote
‘A SOUND IS BORN’
