A Haiku and a Short Poem

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Found two smooth stones
Much older than earthly granite.
Fallen stars?

On an out field where cattle graze
on succulent clover, I found two pale
stones half buried in soil made soft
by dung and cloven hooves. Their
lightness and unusual feel made it
clear that they were fallen stars that
had lost their sheen, forsaken and
thrown down to earth in disregard
to the service they had performed
lightening up the lane where rejected
lovers had walked through the ages.
