Slowing Depth

a poem by Tony Gill

A world of lies fleeting past
Every leaf, every rock
All memories that last
Don’t stop the ticking clock

I said “look out the window”
He said “I know what’s there”
“I’d rather see my family”
“For that I truly care”

His deafened wish in silence
And his eyes did close so deep
His flare of life ran free in dance
So bitter-sweet to sleep.
