Waiting for you

a poem by Viswanath Krishnan

I was waiting for you
before you were born;
My heart knew fully well
one day our paths will cross.

I was waiting for you
after you came to this world,
not knowing when and where
our souls were fated to meet.

When I first set my eyes on you,
when you were only a small kid,
my heart thumped and I knew
my wait was just for you.

I waited thence many a summer
for you to join me for life;
and when at a tender age you did,
I knew my wait was God-ordained.

When time comes for one of us to leave,
I will again be waiting for you,
either side of life,
if need be, for all eternity.
