Tragedy of a Hopeful Romantic

a poem by Nav Chandi

The world doesn’t love a romantic;
Some say that romance is dead;
Death is glorified in so many eyes;
While life and love should be instead.

Death is not the tragedy;
The tragedy is what most don’t see;
It is what we all take for granted;
Every breath that you and I breathe.

Every moment counts, every second matters;
Every instance is in your heart to hold;
The people that matter the most;
Are most often, those that are not told.

Hopeful is what I have always been;
A cynic is what I have become;
Sometimes, I feel the idea…
of being “in love” just seems plain dumb.

We want a love like we see in the movies;
or hear in a corny love song;
Some say it is artificial;
“it can never happen, to be hopeful is wrong”.

Death is not the tragedy;
The idea of “love” keeps most enthralled;
However, to me the greatest tragedy…
is never experiencing any love at all.
