Neighbour’s Dog

a poem by Rahul Nachhiketa

“A maiden named Pooja loves you so much,
O My dear Dog, I feel Jealous!
For the first time in life I think,
Don’t love thy Neighbour, but love their Dogs”

While I stand fluttering around,
With my broken wings,
She fell upon a creature,
Which couldn’t speak or sing,
Perhaps the bark of yours,
Seems music to her ears,
Thy toothy grin of yours,
Has infatuated her, O “bear”
Yes, your eyes seem wet,
Guarding the door night and day,
“I wish I had been gateman,
Who just guarded the gate!”
You stand therefore a better chance,
Lucky enough to be close,
She loves thy cotton fur,
Cascading tongue, and… not to forget flowing nose!
No thief, no rascal
Will trespass you, just see.
But someone has already crawled in,
In your heart, without permission of thee.
My dear lady has fallen in love,
With a creature full of Fleas!!
She’ll cuddle you, caress you,
Although she reaches to your knees!!
She has vowed me last night, to gulp happily
From your body, every fly, every lice.
So my dog, fortunate you are,
You are my maiden’s shining star.
The words don’t hold any value,
But Poets have blue words, and a blue heart.
