Love, That Spans the Bridge of Time

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Long time ago when summers
Lasted long and winters were
White and amazing, a child
Was born into a wondrous world,
Surrounded and protected by
A mother’s love.

As time accelerated, the child
Flew away by the breeze of May.
When seasons became a blur,
Time a devouring beast, and her
Future the past she contented
Welcomed the long good bye.

Her child knew that he could
Never do for his mother what
She had done for him and sadness
Filled him; she had given him,
A jewel of a memory to cherish
In time of discontent.
