Love – 1

a poem by Sudhin De

We speak of love-
of umbilical bond
that ties the mother to the baby,
of children sharing laughter and joy
with playmates-
and tears as well
over broken toys,
of the eternal romance of a Juliet
crying at Romeo’s heels,
or as to how a Laila feels
at Majunu’s loss.

But look at the sparkling stars,
the sighing leaves of the deciduous trees,
the snowy slopes of the mountains wild,
the blooming buds of fragrant roses,
all sing of mysteries of the ephemeral life
on the vast screen of an adventurous universe,
recycling dreams of yesteryears
on the grassland of tomorrow-
oblivious of today’s pains and pangs.
