Fatal embrace

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Love Me!
Love me all the time, she cried.

Impossible, her demands!

For I also love the sky, the forest
and its lake where a beautiful deer
appears when the moon is full.

And the Indian girl in Puerto Rico
who led me to the sea and tenderly
made love to me
and the fallen English rose whom
shared her wine and bed with me when
I walked on the tundra of rejections.

Love Me!
Love me all the time, she cried.

Impossible, her demands.
