The Worry

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Young housewives with their babies,
In smart prams, congregating in the park.
Talk about children, home, husbands and
Worry about getting fat.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror,
Hips and bum bigger than a year ago,
Bust not as firm as before.
A baby scream, wants his mum
And the husband is late from work again,
Or so he says, maybe he doesn’t fancy me anymore.
We haven’t made love for over a week,
No, I really have to go on a diet.
